2007 Scholarship Application

The Pennsylvania Business Education Association is pleased to announce that its annual scholarship is $1,000.  

Any student who is enrolled in a business teacher education undergraduate, masters, or certification program in the state of Pennsylvania, who has a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, and who has at least 90 semester hours at the end of the spring semester is eligible for this scholarship.

The PBEA scholarship was awarded at the 2007 annual conference to Katy Kodish.

Applications for 2008 are due by July 1, 2008. Please email Angeline Yoder with specific questions.

2008 Business Educators and
Friend of Business Awards

NOMINATE:  An Outstanding Business Educator of the Year!  Please nominate persons you feel should be considered for an award in the secondary or post-secondary area.  If you nominated someone in the past that was not selected, please nominate that person again!

CRITERIA:  Service to professional organizations, active membership in PBEA, outstanding contributions to business education in administration, supervision, the classroom, publications, research, student groups, spokesperson for business education, or community service.

METHOD OF NOMINATION:  Anyone may submit candidates' names to the PBEA Awards Committee chairperson on the attached form.

FRIEND OF BUSINESS EDUCATION NOMINEE:

PURPOSE:  To honor an individual who has helped to promote business education in Pennsylvania .

CRITERIA:  Nominee can or can not be a member of PBEA or a teacher of Business Education.  The recipient must have done or written something in particular to promote business education.  The individual will be invited to attend the annual conference to be recognized.  No person may receive this award more than once.

METHOD OF NOMINATION:  Anyone may submit a candidate's name to PBEA's Award Committee Chairperson on the attached form.

2007 PBEA Post-Secondary Educator of the Year
Dr. Linda Szul

Dr. Linda Szul is a professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is currently serving as the Chairperson in the Technology Support and Training Department where she has committed her career to teaching and advancing the field of business education. She has authored and co-authored articles, papers and chapters which have been published in leading business education publications Dr. Szul has a renowned reputation as a vibrant presenter delivering invited and referred presentations at regional, national and international conferences. Dr. Szul has held various leadership positions in professional associations such as the Organizational Systems Research Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Tri-State Business Education Association, NBEA, EBEA and PBEA.

 

2007 PBEA Secondary Educator of the Year
Gerry Abramson




Gerry Abramson has spent the past 37 years teaching at Neshaminy High School, Langhorne, PA, and serves as the BCIT Department Chair and District Lead Teacher for Curriculum and Instruction. He has taught a variety of classes including Accounting I, II and Honors III; Information Processing I and II; Marketing; Business English; Business Math; Keyboarding; and Business Law. He participates in the Business Advisory Council for IU#22, Neshaminy BCIT Advisory Council, and Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of NBEA, EBEA, PBEA, and BCBEA (Bucks County Business Education Association) He has written grants for Smartboards and Palms for his school. He co-initiated a coalition in Bucks and Montgomery Counties for the adoption of state standards for BCIT and drafted the BCIT State Standard document presented to the PA House of Representatives. He serves as liaison for PA Governor’s Schools and for the Free Enterprise Week Program conferences.

David Madden

David Madden is a principal at Oxford Area High School, Oxford, PA. He was responsible for implementing the Project 720 High School Reform Initiative. Part of this initiative included making a commitment to business education through significant facility and curriculum upgrades. David has demonstrated his commitment to business education and the opportunities provided to students by being a strong supporter of FBLA. He has been an advocate for business education through his presentations at the Integrated Learning Conference, FBLA National Conference, and PBEA Annual Conference.

 

2007 PBEA Scholarship Recipient
Katy Kodish

 

Katy Kodish, is a graduate of Lewistown Area High School. Katy is a senior at Bloomsburg University, majoring in business education. She is a member of several honor societies recognizing academic excellence, including Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Omega Pi and Phi Beta Lambda. In addition to her outstanding academic career, Katy has also been employed by both the Bloomsburg University branch of the Association of PA State College and University Faculties and the Lewistown Country Club for the past three years.
