The Business/Enterpreneurship Department at Warwick High School offers many practice and unique opportunities to students. Students who take advantage of the Business/Entrepreneurship course offerings obtain the knowledge and skills that will carry them into their college and careers, no matter what their chosen path/profession. The department has a total of six teachers—two teachers at the Middle School teach Keyboarding and Computer Applications. Both of these courses are required. The four teachers at the high school teach twenty-seven different courses to the students in grades 9 through 12. (Some of the courses are on a two-year cycle and are not offered every year.)The course offerings at the high school are grouped around three state approved programs: Accounting, Business/Information/Computer Technology, and Entrepreneurship. Another group of courses focus on personal-use/life skills that benefit all students. The department has been extremely proactive and has offered courses such as Sports Entertainment Marketing, International Business, Business Administration & Management, Law in Society, Visual Basic, and Personal Money Management. Students can also elect to take several “experience” classes where they establish, operate, and liquidate an actual business for profit both domestically and internationally.
Other unique and special programs that students at Warwick can take advantage of by taking selected business courses include: getting college credit through established Articulation Agreements; taking official Microsoft Office Specialist Certification tests free of charge; taking NOCTI (National Occupational Competency Testing Institute) test; being involved in FBLA; participating in the stock market game, annual computer fair, and mock trial; and operating the school store.
The Business/Entrepreneurship program at Warwick has strong support from the Board, the district and high school administration, and a very active Occupational Advisory Committee consisting of members of the business community.
